We are looking for a proactive, resourceful person to act as Executive Director in a Collaborative Laboratory that develops innovative products and services to protect crops from pests and diseases. The candidate must have leadership skills, a strategic vision of the crop protection sector, and extensive recognized experience of managing agronomic and agrochemical institutions.
Main responsibilities and obligations
The Executive Director reports directly to the Administration Council of InnovPlantProtect and is responsible for:
- Ensuring the good management of InnovPlantProtect;
- Coordinating the scientific activities of InnovPlantProtect;
- Proposing to the Administration Council and implementing, after approval by the General Assembly, the annual plan of activities, including its annual budget;
- Proposing to the Administration Council the annual scientific and financial reports;
- Proposing a 5-year business plan, annually updated;
- Maintaining a close interaction with the members of the Administration Council regarding all strategic and main operational matters;
- Developing the articulation of InnovPlantProtect with national and foreign scientific and technological entities;
- Ensuring a good communication among InnovPlantProtect associates and with the public in general;
- Promoting and coordinating the preparation, presentation and implementation of strategic research and development projects to achieve the objectives of the Association;
- Replacing, if needed, the Department Directors, after hearing the Administration Council;
- Ensuring the creation of innovation and the production of intellectual property, and promoting its Licensing to National or International Companies;
- Developing services aligned with the competences and goals of InnovPlantProtect;
- Promoting contacts with governmental, public and private entities, at national and international level, aiming to guarantee financial success.
Specific requirements
- Leadership skills and experience;
- Strategic vision of the crop protection sector;
- Extensive management skills, including management of human resources and management of projects and financial resources;
- Knowledge of the agro-industrial sector and a recognized Curriculum vitae, including Diploma degree in a relevant area;
- Understanding of InnovPlantProtect scientific areas of activity;
- Proven experience in the coordination of national and international projects;
- Knowledge of the Portuguese agricultural reality and recognition/respect from the agricultural sector;
- Recognition/respect from the national and international scientific community;
- Good network of business collaborations and scientific partnerships, at national and international level;
- Ability to implement, manage and negotiate intellectual property;
- Ability to implement medium and long-term strategic decisions, balancing the interests of InnovPlantProtect associates;
- Communication skills addressing diverse audiences;
- Ability to travel frequently to different parts of the country, as well as abroad;
- Fluency in the use of Portuguese and English, both spoken and written.
InnovPlantProtect aims to create innovation for the protection of crops, seeds and post-harvest products, in particular through:
- Development of new technologies and knowledge, as well as the improvement of previously developed technologies, to protect crops, seeds and post-harvest products, as well as their intellectual protection and availability;
- Development of applied scientific research to introduce the developed technologies in the market, and to develop processes and products;
- Provide technical support to companies and entities, public or private, assisting them in the introduction of biotechnological strategies, methods and processes, and in the orientation and implementation of industrial research and development, directed towards the protection of crops, seeds and post-harvest products;
- Collaboration with public or private institutions, national or foreign in their areas of activity.
Workplace: The place of work will be the headquarters of InnovPlantProtect, at the INIAV Elvas (Elvas, Portugal).
Salary and contract
A full-time uncertain term contract will be offered, starting no later than January 1st 2025, with a trial period of 6 months. All the activities to be developed will be subject to confidentiality clauses. The maximum gross value of the remuneration will be in between 65.000 and 80.000 euros per year, depending on experience.
